Foundation Stage "Get a handle on Early Years"

Support leaders in the development of provision for these very young children.

This course is suitable for all leaders in the primary sector. Whilst it may be useful for leaders of EYFS, it is intended mainly for those school leaders who feel the need to sharpen their knowledge and understanding of this stage, and the skills needed to lead it, or support the leaders in the development of provision for these very young children.

The day has been planned to support school leaders in evaluating the outcomes of the EYFS, including all the separate areas of learning, and in using these outcomes to evaluate the provision and leadership of this stage. It considers the key questions to ask when developing criteria to measure the overall effectiveness of provision.

By the end of the day, delegates will have explored strategies for gathering information to support self evaluation for the EYFS and support the specifics of writing this section in the SEF. There is additional focus on how EYFS classes and settings can prepare for an Ofsted inspection.

The day will also consider the leadership roles of vision and action planning, and how the EYFS can be effective when working within the context of the whole school.

    During the day, participants will:
  • Explore what “effective provision” means in the context of the EYFS
    • Effective teaching
    • The role of assessment
    • An effective EYFS curriculum
    • Guidance and personalised learning
  • Gain an understanding of the main elements of leadership of the EYFS
